- Title
A Song for Molly: In which I tell how I fell hard for a dog, why I have problems with women, and what I know about Ludwig Wittgenstein.
- Authors
Bernstein, Jeremy
- Abstract
In this article the author reflects on various interconnected aspects of his life, including his inability to establish lasting romantic relationships with women, taking in a sick abandoned dog named Molly, and his enthusiasm for the work of German philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein. He points out contradictions in Wittgenstein's treatise "Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus" largely related to his statements on language, and examines Wittgenstein's thought on dogs' inability to simulate pain. Later, he explains how reading Wittgenstein allowed him to connect with a female friend and decide to buy a dog following Molly's death.
