Harm of Removing Ovaries During Hysterectomy Might Outweigh Benefit.

- Abstract
Medical News in Brief Women who had both ovaries removed during a hysterectomy for a benign condition were more likely to die within 10 years than women who did not, although the link was only significant for those who had surgery between the ages of 45 and 54 years, according to findings from nearly 143 000 women in Denmark. Moreover, women who had both ovaries removed when they were younger than 45 years had about a 1.2% higher 10-year cumulative risk for a cardiovascular disease-related hospitalization than those who underwent a hysterectomy without oophorectomy.
