- Abstract
The article focuses on the increasing pressure from marketers to make information collected by government available free of charge, as well as a simplification of licensing practices. Several suppliers of information are presented, including the Office for National Statistics, the Post Office, and the Ordnance Survey. The article presents and discusses the examples of the Office of National Statistics, which has recently sought to maximize the use of its data by making it free to the public, and the Ordnance Survey, which protects what it sees as intellectual property with licensing agreements.
