- Title
Hearing the Female Voice: Transgression in Amis and Amiloun.
- Authors
Jost, Jean E.
- Abstract
In this article, the author analyzes the position of women in the medieval poem "Amis and Amiloun" by examining the portrayal of the wives of the title characters. The author notes that in contrast to the male-bonding and codependence shown between Amis and Amiloun, the wives are possessive and socially defiant. The article highlights the transgressive nature of female power in the narrative through close-readings of several sections of the poem.
