- Abstract
The article focuses on the efforts of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) for the adoption of electronic health records (EHR) by 2014. It says that the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) was the barrier for the EHRs implementation. It adds the proposal of CMS to amend the privacy rule which will allow patients with direct access to their test reports.
