- Title
THE MYSTERY SURROUNDING THE BOOK OF MARGERY KEMPE AND ITS CONNECTION WITH THE MONKS OF MOUNT GRACE.
- Authors
Gracey, Amy B.
- Abstract
The article criticizes the book "The Book of Margery Kempe." It contends that the narrative fails in various ways, in which Margery does not found an order, raise new theological questions, or expound deeply about spiritual truths. It argues that the narrative is full of emotional and personal experiences as well as normal and mundane acts. It notes that the introduction of the book, author S. B. Meech says of the marginal and interlinear writings, in which most of the marginal glosses are at points in the narrative where the transcriber agrees with a particular part of the narrative.
