- Authors
Recken, Stephen L.
- Abstract
The article discusses how the African American Booker T. Washington influenced the cultivation of a better relationship among races in Arkansas. Although born as a slave, he built his own school after he graduated. He was regarded as a spokesperson of his race as he wielded influence in the state through subtle engagement in politics and patronage within the Republican Party. He is an embodiment of his perception of black self-help through industrial education and entrepreneurship.
