- Abstract
The article focuses on the role of African American legislators in the political conditions in Arkansas in the 19th century. In 1968, John William Graves has identified African American legislators who has served during the time when disfranchisement and segregation laws were passed in 1891. Between 1868 through 1893, African American legislators made a career in the U.S. Senate.
