- Abstract
Bektashi tekkes (dervish lodges) have a very important place in Ottoman history’s religious structure. A group of people named Chelebis (Çelebiler) were existing in the board of trustee of the Bektashi tekkes. They were considered as the sons of Haci Bektash and they were responsible for the income and expenses of the tekkes. These tekkes were fairly big organizations which have expended into three continents. For seeing services correctly in Bektashi dervish lodges, certain precautions had been taken to prevent malicious people from taking place in the tekke’s activities. One of these precautions was the “icazetname” (the practicing certificates) which meantthe license of authorization given to people who will see the services. These certificates give us some hints about the value judgments, perception of belief and worship of that era. It is possible to obtain information about people the written practicing certificate. This specific sample of practicing certificate belongs to the year 1855 (AD); 1271 (AH). This is a caliphate certificate, which is given to Mustafa; the son of Seyyid Velîyeddin from Sinekli village of Hafik town. At the bottom of the document, there are imprints of the Dedebaba, Caliph Babas and Chelebis of the century.
