Equine, hemochromatosis, hepatocytes, iron overload Keywords: equine; hemochromatosis; hepatocytes; iron overload EN equine hemochromatosis hepatocytes iron overload 441 443 3 09/15/22 20220901 NES 220901 CASE PRESENTATION An 11-year-old Pony of the Americas mare was presented to Auburn University Large Animal Teaching Hospital for evaluation of liver insufficiency as well as a 6-week history of lethargy and anorexia. At that time, the horse continued to have increased iron (373 g/dL, RI: 91-240 g/dL) and ferritin levels (3102 ng/mL, RI: 85-726 ng/mL) and a diagnosis of primary hereditary hemochromatosis was considered likely.
