- Title
L'invention de la Franco-Amérique: la relecture de l'Histoire en histoires chez Antonine Maillet et Jacques Poulin.
- Authors
Thibeault, Jimmy
- Abstract
This article discusses the romanticizing of the Francophone experience in North America through the writing of historical fiction. This occurs through a tendency to "rewrite" the history of European exploration and civilization on the continent in an effort to create a more "mythic" narrative. The works of the authors Antonine Maillet and Jacques Poulin are specifically examined. Themes discussed in the article include the cultural identity of Francophone persons, the experience of Arcadian's in Quebec and the United States, and cultural pluralism.
