- Authors
Goldsborough, Gordon
- Abstract
The article discusses the history of concrete block manufacturing in Manitoba in the first half of the twentieth century. Concrete blocks manufactured in Manitoba were larger than bricks and easier to make, and were used in the construction of houses and other buildings until 1910. Topics include profiles of buildings that were made of the concrete blocks, including stores, schools, and private residences, why the blocks were discontinued for their lack of insulation, and a profile of the manufacturing firm Arden Cement Block and Building Company.
