- Authors
Hogan, Jean-Marie
- Abstract
The article explores the connections between Dante's Purgatorio and monastic life, particularly the Rule of St. Benedict. The author focuses on Dante's use of the Psalms and hymns of the breviary, noting the similarities between the prayers in Purgatorio and the monastic Divine Office. The article also discusses the themes of ascent and healing in both Purgatorio and the monastic tradition. The author suggests that Dante may have been influenced by monastic communities he encountered, such as the Badia Fiorentina and Camaldoli. Overall, the article aims to contribute to the understanding of the monastic dimension in Purgatorio.
