- Abstract
The article presents a description of tourmalines and their imitations bought by Matthew McCann at a local bazaar in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Five tourmalines were sent to the University of Nantes in Nantes, France, for examination after McCann suspected that the two largest pieces were fake because of its unusual color combinations. Both the near colorless/purple and yellow/green tourmalines presented no luminescence to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The materials were found to be quartz and not tourmaline.
