Update on iridescent andradite from Mexico.
- Authors
Boehm, Edward
- Abstract
The article presents an update regarding the iridescent andradite mining activity in Sonora, Mexico. In January 2006, Pala International and JOEB Enterprises helped reactivate the mining area for the material. In 2003, local miners using only pricks and shovels recovered enough material to bring two parcels of garnets to the U.S., which consisted of about 20 small crystals. John McLean, a mine foreman at Pala, subsequently worked with the local mine owners to introduce more effective mining methods through the use of explosives and a compressor to operate a pneumatic jackhammer.
