- Title
The Victim-Aggressor Duality in Great Expectations.
- Authors
Ciugureanu, Adina
- Abstract
The article discusses the victim and aggressor conflict in Charles Dickens' novel "Great Expectations," by analyzing the characters Miss Havisham, Mrs. Joe Gargery and Molly. Mrs. Joe's mystery lies in a desire to see Orlick daily despite being assaulted by him. The looking glass is central to Miss Havisham's identity since the visual inspection signifies her need of reassurance that she is what she wants to be. Molly's aggressiveness was shown when she murdered another woman out of jealousy.
