- Abstract
The new technological possibilities and new forms of politics are shaping a society where citizens participate in wider and horizontal ways, often without the participation of Governments or conventional politic powers. The scientific dimension of this expanded citizenship need also to be developed: citizens should to be able to Understand (the traditional goal of scientific vulgarization), Decide (as a consumer, but also as member of a community) and Act (directly or through institutions). Several kinds of science learning activities are classified from their contribution to these three prompts, with insights in didactic aspects: the use of a Context (as reading newspapers and advertisings), the use of a Conflict (as in Socio-Scientific Issues) and the use of a Role (Citizen Science, Responsible Research and Innovation). The difficulties for such kind of learning activities are described on behalf of the development of the prompt to Act and its importance for equity is discussed.
