- Abstract
The article focuses on the translation process which was used by Indian translator and writer Lakshmi Holmstrom for the Tamil novel "Karukku," written by Bama Faustina Soosairaj. Holmstrom aims to describe the sufferings of Tamil Dalit people, as represented by the sharp edges of the Karukku palmyra leaves, within the framework of transliteration of proper nouns and culture-specific objects. What emerge is an English translation of a Tamil-written novel approximated by the words used.
