- Abstract
Two cases of aorto-inferior vena caval fistula in association with an abdominal aortic aneurysm are presented. Although a rare lesion, emphasis is placed on a constant awareness of this combination when treating an abdominal aneurysm. The symptoms, signs and pathophysiology of aorto-vena caval fistulas are discussed. Recognition of this condition before surgical manipulation of an aneurysm is necessary in order to prevent catastrophic embolization of arteriosclerotic material. A surgical approach to avoid this complication and surgical correction are illustrated.
