- Abstract
The article presents a response to an article entitled "Democratic Revolution in Permanenz," by scholar Lars Lih, which appeared in the October 2012 issue and reviewed the book "Witnesses to Permanent Revolution: The Documentary Record," by Richard Day and Daniel Gaido. It comments on the political career of Russian revolutionary leader Leon Trotsky between 1905 and 1917, noting his political isolation. The author reflects on Trotsky's political thought, called Trotskyism, and the theory of permanent revolution. The positions of European Social Democrats, Bolsheviks, and Menshevists are also addressed.
