- Abstract
Education is an important way of preserving the cultural values, which is one of the values necessary for social unity, and transferring them to the next generations. At this point, Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge courses have important duties. Gaining awareness of cultural belonging, which can be defined as the adaptation of the individual to the cultural structure he is in, is an important goal of Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge courses. This research was carried out to determine the role of Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge courses taught in secondary education institutions in gaining awareness of cultural belonging to students. The "Level Scale of Accessing the Purpose of Acquiring Cultural Belonging and Responsibility Awareness in Religious Education", which was the source of the data collection of the research and was prepared in a five-point Likert type, consists of four dimensions of adopting-promoting culture, gaining social harmony through culture, recognizing culture and protecting-development of culture and 26 items. The scale was applied to 1008 students studying in 5 different school types and 8 different schools at secondary level in the 2019-2020 academic year in Sivas city center. The research, in which the obtained data were interpreted in the light of the relevant literature, was designed with the convergent mixed method.
