- Abstract
The Internet has experienced the fastest adoption of new technology in history. The adoption of the Internet for communication, information, and commercial activity has exploded with a speed few other information technology innovations can match. In the business world, the adoption of the Internet can be considered as a dynamic innovation with distinct dimensions. Thus, Internet implementation is influenced in terms of technology adoption, integration within business processes, and the strategic change that results from its application. This work takes a resource-based view, suggesting that the Internet is a resource capable of creating temporal and sustained competitive advantages. Moreover, as there is no unique strategy for implementing the Internet, this paper proposes several business strategies that can lead to competitive advantages.
