- Title
THE ARTISTIC REPRESENTATION OF THE BEGINNINGS OF THE DRIVE TO DESTRUCTION.
- Authors
PSHENKO, Sasho
- Abstract
The depiction of inherently destructive and deconstructive tendencies within humanity has remained ever-popular in both philosophical and anthropological circles, yet it has, perhaps, been most provoking when tackled in works of art. This article aims to cover the ways in which the beginnings of such urges are shown in several works of world literature and in two films. Using psychoanalytic theory and the death drive as a backbone, this article will review the manifestations of cruelty in animals and children, as presented in works by Lautreamont, Musil, Kafka, Kieślowski, and Kubrick. The final goal would be to arrive at the conclusions implied by such ambiguous and, often, disquieting works of art.
