- Abstract
Post-conflict and post-colonial societies like Kosova have a serious challenge: how to write the real history outside of the ideological premises and how to break away from the neo- colonial consciousness? The book ''The Death of a Colony'' by author Ibrahim Berisha presents and documents the colonial past of Kosova in Yugoslavia from 1912 to 1990. This review is devoted to the author's work, the specificity of the approach and the scientific and disciplinary methodology that he used; the way of argumentation, coherence and use of over 400 references; sociological treatment of the political, economic, social, cultural and human effects of the elaborations manifested and legitimized by the system in function of the violent colonization of Kosova, etc. How was the Serbian myth created for Kosova? How was started and fulfilled the realisation of endeavors from the academician and the Serbian officials to achieve their hegemonic and colonialist aims in Yugoslavia? How did the demographic structure of Kosova Albanians change and what means were used for ethnic cleansing? How was treated Kosova in the period of the Serbian-Croatian-Slovenian Kingdom and in the Tito period? In what periods and with whose intervention were created conditions for the creation of identity and the first cultural institutions? What was the effect of propaganda in creating an ideological consciousness at that time and in creating the neo-colonial consciousness today? How did the death of the colony begin -- the process of decolonization? All these questions are answered by this review of the book "The Death of a Colony".
