- Abstract
The general practitioner (GP) takes care of health promotion, prevention and meeting the usual pathology in everyday life. He is responsible for high-risk patients. The GP provides medical care in his office, at home, and if necessary he visits his patients in the hospital. GP encounter diseases of all organs and systems. The most important and basic functions of GPs are the detection of diseases at an early stage and the monitoring of chronically ill patients. Patients visit their doctor on the occasion of an acute illness or monitoring of treatment for chronic diseases. In the practices of GP, where a laboratory for express diagnostics has been introduced, the repeated visits of patients to GP have decreased. Through rapid tests - close to the patient, the tests can be performed in the GP's practice at the time of the patient's first visit. The paradigm in healthcare is changing from one that is focused on the disease to one that is focused on the patient. In order for rapid tests to be safely introduced into general medical practice, physicians must be confident that their clinical decisions are based on reliable and accurate results equivalent to traditional laboratory testing. The desire of all doctors and patients is to have the laboratory result during the examination and to shorten the time for diagnosis - this will lead to greater satisfaction of patients with medical care.
