- Title
Absconding patients at risk.
- Abstract
The article reports on figures released by the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA), which show that during a 12-month period ending in October 2007, more than 8,000 inpatients are missing or absconded from acute mental health units in England. According to the author, NPSA has voiced concerns that 19 patients suffered severe harm while away from the ward and that 7 died. He added that a variety of interventions have been used by the staff to prevent absconding.
