- Abstract
Teachers are one of the most important variables in education. It can be argued that a quality education largely depends on the teacher factor. The fact that the teachers have the knowledge and skills will increase the productivity and quality of learning-teaching activities; it will accelerate and facilitate the achievement of educational objectives. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the attitudes toward research and attitudes toward postgraduate education of teacher candidates. Study follows a correlational detection model while holding a descriptive quality. Participants of the research are teacher candidates who are attending a state university in the academic year 2017-2018. The research was held among 504 teacher candidates who were selected with a convenient sampling method. The data of this research is collected via “Attitudes Toward Research Scale” and “Attitudes Toward Higher Education Scale”. To analyze the data, SPSS software package was used and Mann-Whitney U Test, Kruskal-Wallis test and Spearman correlation analysis were applied. In general, the results of the study showed a significant difference for “gender” and “satisfaction from the alma mater” variables in the attitudes toward research of teacher candidates whereas in their attitudes toward graduate studies “satisfaction from alma mater” and “studied major” variables showed a significant difference. According to correlation analysis, a positive weak correlation is detected between attitudes toward research and attitudes toward higher education. Several suggestions are made in compliance with the study's findings.
