- Authors
Fleming, Michael J.; Krishnan, Neel
- Abstract
The article offers information on the benefits of treasury inflation-protected securities (TIPS), which was launched in the U.S. in 1997. It mentions that TIPS offers investors a security that would enable them to hedge inflation. It informs that the U.S. Treasury Department would not have to pay an inflation risk premium on its securities, by taking on the risk of inflation and lowering its expected borrowing costs. It reveals that TIPS lack market liquidity compared with nominal securities.
