- Abstract
States having nationalistic ideology, employed education as an instrument in the process of nation building. States use instrument such as education and ideology to make their existence and legality perennial on social base. Political government transmits its principles to society through the ideology. Education provides institutional ground this transmission. The education and the ideology is phenomena which is articulated. Founders of the republic used all of resources of the states (education, family, law, army, police, and communication, transportation so on) to actualize the desired reconstruction. Education is one of the most critic elements. Because, education provides people consisting of state to be comprehended the ideological structure, which is the basic component of states and seemed legal. Therefore, Turkish Republic benefits from the education component, as other new states, in the systematic process of changing and regenerating of present constitution. In this study, it was sought to answer that if contemporary ideology was adopted? What content of the adopted ideology was? Descriptive method was used. Descriptive research tries explaining what events, objects, existences, institutions are (Kaptan, 1998:59). As a result of this study, it was seen that ideology of republic was understood in the context of that time. At the time of Mustapha Kemal (Ataturk) pragmatic and consistent educational policy aiming progress, integration, nationalism, secularization was adopted.
