- Authors
Gorman, Joseph F.; Hargadon, Joseph M.
- Abstract
The purpose of this article is to provide our perspective on the fixture of the accounting profession in the next decade. We set the stage by discussing recent events that have served as the catalyst for much of the change that we believe will take place, and we offer our views on how this will impact and perhaps reshape selected aspects of the financial services industry. Specifically, we focus on the areas (financial planning/investment accounting, internal audit, education and ethics) where we anticipate the greatest change will occur given the pace of technology and our prior experience. The noted baseball "philosopher" Yogi Berra once said, "The future ain't what it used to be.'' It is clear to us that the future of the accounting profession "ain't what it used to be."
