- Abstract
The article discusses the threat to European solidarity as it continuously faces major crises from defense in the 1950s, budget in the1980s, and unemployment in the1990s. It states that the current financial crisis started by Greece has already raised questions on the feasibility of participating in European projects and its rules. It informs on the grounds gained by populist movements as the French National Front, Italian Northern League, and the Austrian Freedom Party who are all skeptics of the European Union and who culls their popularity from economic deterioration.
