- Abstract
PURPOSE: To study the technique of removal of broken roots dislocated into the maxillary sinus during teeth extraction. METHODS: Broken roots of fifteen patients dislocated into maxillary sinus during teeth extraction were removed by negative pressure drainage, irrigation of maxillary sinus and filling gauze piece into maxillary sinus through tooth extraction wound. RESULTS: Nine of them were removed by suction drainage and irrigation of maxillary sinus through the extraction wound. Six patients underwent filling pieces of gauze into maxillary sinus, irrigation of maxillary sinus and suction drainage through the extraction wound and the broken roots were successfully removed. CONCLUSION: The broken roots dislocated into maxillary sinus can be successfully removed by combination of applying filing pieces of gauze into maxillary sinus, irrigation of maxillary sinus and suction drainage through the extraction wound. The technique is simple and efficient with few injuries and shorter surgical time.
