- Abstract
Background: The advancement in the analytical forensic chemistry has been facing many challenges. One among them is measurement of uncertainty. There are several factors like environmental and non-environmental, which might affect the measurements. As various bodies accredit most of the forensic science laboratories across the world, like in India it is NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories). It becomes mandatory to show the uncertainty in the measurements related to any instrumental method being used in the analysis of various kinds of unknown sample. Density is one small parameter used to assess the percentage of alcohol in country made liquor. Objective: To estimate the uncertainty measurement when hydrometer is used to measure the density. Material and Method: Total 20 samples of country liquor were collected and tested with hydrometer for multiple times, further the % uncertainty was determined for each of the sample. Result: It was found that the uncertainty obtained of all the samples was almost zero. Conclusion: The present study indicates that the density of country made liquor can be measured with hydrometer, a more economical based method.
