- Abstract
In any scientific field, results are obtained after applying several research and estimation methods. This holds true for the biomechanics of the dento-maxilary apparatus, too. The study considers the possibility of using computer technology to evaluate the response of a biological system to various functional efforts. Many years of experience in using finite element in dental fundamental research prove the viability of this method. The paper presents a simulation in 3D of a natural tooth in physiological functionality, creating a reference point data base required by future studies. The stress distributions and levels in the teeth and in the periodontal tissues were examined in natural teeth. The results underlie the correlation which exists between the morphological aspects of the teeth and their response to functional impacts.
