- Abstract
The Pesticide Water Contamination Risk Assessment (ARCA) index estimates the risk of contamination of the water from the use of pesticides, allowing the analysis of alternatives for its reduction. To do so, it uses two risk indicators of pesticide contamination: the potential for pesticide contamination and the environmental vulnerability of the site. In this sense, the objective of this study was the application of such methodology in an area of production with predominance of family agriculture, with adaptations of the original methodology given the application of geotechnologies. Some parameters and indicators were implemented according to the applicability of theoretical construction in the field, such as the acquisition of environmental conditions and the use of geographic information systems. The focus on the active principles as a variable in the field research allowed the calculation of the risk of contamination of water by pesticides with a model that reaches easily obtainable indicators and can be used as an important tool in the management of water resources and in the planning and sustainable use of natural resources. From the analysis of the data, indicators can be elaborated for the potential of environmental contamination, allowing the application of such method in other areas, serving as the basis for other research.
