- Abstract
The article reports that the European Parliament's Agriculture and Rural Development Committee approved a proposal from the European Commission on March 17, 2009. The proposal seeks to replace the rules with a new regulation that would allow more uniform application of European Union (EU) rules in member states and improve animal welfare. The committee agreed that animals must be slaughtered using only the methods that ensure death instantly or after stunning.
