The article offers literary criticism of works by writer Emilia Pardo Bazán, including the book "El lirismo en la poesía francesa," the novel "Dulce dueño," and the speech "La educación del hombre y la mujer." It is said that Pardo Bazán emphasizes freedom from institutional authority as a result of self-cultivation. Topics include philosopher Michel Foucault's notion of technologies of the self, early Christian gnosticism, and the role of mysticism in Christianity.
