- Title
Consuming Nationalism? Taste, Language, and the Novel in Constitutional Galicia.
- Authors
HOOPER, KIRSTY
- Abstract
An essay analyzing the division of Galician language cultural production into low and high cultures during the post-1978 democratic government is presented. The author argues that Galician high culture has been fostered by political and cultural institutions supporting Galician nationalism, while print media is dominated by the Spanish language. Also noted are theorist Pierre Bourdieu's notion of cultural production, the lack of Galician middlebrow fiction, and the role of consumers in culture.
