- Abstract
The article discusses four summer homes on Hiddensee, Germany, designed by German architect Max Taut between 1922 and 1924 in the expressionist architectural style. Design elements of these vacation homes are detailed and contextualized as reflective of the intellectual, cultural, and social trends prevailing in Germany after World War I. Ideas about Eastern philosophy and enlightenment that informed the interior design and Taut's overall architectural philosophy are also discussed.
