- Abstract
Presents a study that investigated a potential intracellular second messenger role of sphigosine-1-phosphate (S1P) in endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) activation and the contribution of this alternate pathway in the control of vascular tone. Induction of endothelium and receptor-dependent vasorelaxation coupled to an increase in eNOS activity; Involvement of sphingosine kinase activity in endothelium-dependent vasodilatation; Reduction of Ach-induced vasorelaxation through the inhibition of sphingolipid biosynthesis.
