- Abstract
This article discusses the need to improve the experience of individuals with chronic heart failure (CHF) who are nearing the end of their lives. Despite advancements in medical treatments for heart failure, the goal of therapy remains to delay disease progression. Palliative care is recognized as an important aspect of CHF management, focusing on improving the quality of life for patients and their families. The article suggests several priorities for improving care, including training healthcare professionals in palliative care, recognizing the role of general practitioners, utilizing nurse practitioners and community-based nurses, conducting research on patient preferences, transitioning cardiologists to be part of the palliative care team, and evolving societal expectations to prioritize a good death.
