- Abstract
For a long time neglected, the book of devotion was nevertheless, from the middle of the XVIIth century, an essential weapon of pastoral catholic allowing to develop an individualized approach of the faith. The study of copies today preserved in the libraries of the seminaries makes us discover three dimensions of the printed matter of worship: a major economic activity; an adapted spiritual message; the forms of appropriation on behalf of the readers. The popularity of these works also authorizes the comparisons between what was read in Quebec, in Lorraine and in Savoy between 1650 and 1840. The outlines of a regional religious personality appear then.
