- Abstract
While I do give a date of I c i .1330 or later for I SM i 7, in I Music and the i moderni I do not give a specific date for the I Ars vetus et nova i , and I also do not argue that Jacobus is quoting from the digests, but rather from the ancestor text: 'All we know is that the lost I Ars vetus et nova i of the I doctor modernus i pre-dates I Speculum musicae i . 10 Desmond, I Music and the i moderni, 16. 11 Ibid. 12 Bent, ' I Artes novae i ', 745-7, takes particular issue with what she perceives as my negative opinion of I Tribum/Quoniam. i I had hoped that my analysis showed how the sparse, open, direct, and oppositional style of I Tribum/Quoniam i is a fascinating musical representation of its polemical texts (summarized in I Music and the i moderni, 64).
