- Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of work alienation on work engagement and to create a model to understand this relationship. Importance: The concepts of work alienation and work dedication are important factors in terms of attitudes and behaviors of employees at work. While work alienation can reduce employees' commitment and motivation at work, work engagement can increase employee commitment and motivation. Therefore, understanding the relationship between these two concepts will help to better understand the factors that affect the attitudes and behaviors of employees in the workplace. Limitations: The limitations of this study include that the data is based on a single scale and that it was conducted only in a specific workplace. However, this study can still be extended and applied to employees in other workplaces. Method: In this study, data were collected from a total of 942 real estate sector employees using the survey method. The data were analyzed with the structural equation model using the SPSS program. A regression model was created to understand the relationship between work alienation and work engagement. Results: In the study, a negative correlation was found between work alienation and work engagement. That is, as work alienation increased, work engagement decreased. In addition, work alienation was found to have a significant effect on work engagement. Conclusion: This study provides evidence showing the negative impact of work alienation on work engagement. Therefore, work alienation factors should be reduced in order to increase employee engagement in workplaces. For this, policies and practices should be developed to increase the motivation and commitment of employees in the workplace.
