- Abstract
Based on the theories of researchers such as Ferdinand de Saussure, William Labov, Marcos Bagno and Magda Soares and the use of academic publications on Linguistics, Linguistic Varieties and Linguistic Prejudice, as well as the guidelines of the National Common Curricular Base to approach linguistic variations, this This study aimed to discuss the issue of linguistic prejudice in the school environment, through a literature review of authors in the area. To achieve the objectives, bibliographic, documentary, descriptive and qualitative research was carried out, with data analysis through content analysis. Among the results presented, the analyzes of the publications showed that, although there is a huge linguistic variety in Brazil, the teaching of standard Portuguese language, a normative grammar or "cultured language", which represents only a part of the spoken language, still predominates in schools. in the country. Thus, as a result of this imposition, according to the authors analyzed, there is a conflict between language and the norm, resulting in linguistic prejudice. It was also concluded that the authors do not advocate an integral replacement of the variety spoken by the student, but that the school and other educational institutions should start to recognize linguistic diversity and, in this way, work for a linguistic education that respects differences and be inclusive.
