- Title
Meaning-Making After a Fire: Applying the Concepts of Place Attachment to the Therapy Space.
- Authors
Smothers, Melissa Kraemer
- Abstract
Place attachment is defined as a place in which people feel emotionally connected to, as well as the emotional and psychological connection that forms between people and their important places (Scannell & Gifford, 2010). Place attachment has not been applied to the concept of therapeutic space, yet the overlap in these two concepts is significant for counselors. In this manuscript, place attachment is examined in light of the disruption of a place following a fire. Implications for counselors are addressed.
