- Abstract
The article discusses Greendale Middle School's PODER-YES after-school program in the U.S. which focuses on teaching literacy as a social practice among linguistically diverse students. The author describes her work with the after-school program and the students' project to address language discrimination. Topics include the use of the school as a contact zone among culturally and linguistically diverse students, students' attitudes toward school cafeterias as spaces to encourage multiculturalism and cross-cultural interaction, as well as the students' creation of a multilingual video about gossip.
