- Abstract
The performance of polylactic acid (PLLA) membrane for the equilibrium- modified atmosphere packaging of fruit and vegetable still needs to be further improved due to the defects of PLLA itself. In this work, PLBI copolymer was prepared by introducing polybutylene itaconate (PBI) into PLLA as flexible chain segment through melting esterification and polycondensation reaction. PLBI/HMSM membranes were prepared by filling hollow mesoporous SiO2 microspheres (HMSM) into PLBI by solution casting method. The effects of soft segment embedding and HMSM particle size on the packaging performance of the membranes were explored, and the regulatory effect of the membranes on the micro atmosphere in strawberry packaging was evaluated. The results show that Tg of PLBI membranes is decreased by 5.4 ℃ and the elongation at break is increased by 14.3 fold compared to PLLA. After adding 0.9% of 700 nm HMSM, the carbon dioxide transmission rate (CDTR) and oxygen transmission rate (OTR) of PLBI films are increased significantly, and CDTR and OTR are about 2.2 and 3.3 times of PLLA, respectively, while the water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) decreases. Preservation results suggest that the PLBI/HMSM packaging membrane could generate an ideal high 6.9%~8.0% CO2 and low 3.1%~4.6% O2 atmosphere for strawberry preservation, delaying the drying and rotting of okra.
