An essay is presented on the rise and fall of the Grand Village of the Kaskaskia, also called the Grand Village of the Illinois, in the 17th century. It argues that the village is the center of exploitation of power as it capitalizes on the ecological and social benefits of various opportunities including slavery, bison hunting and slave trading.
