- Abstract
The article focuses on the competency of prisoners being executed. Topics discussed include prisoner Alvin Ford pleading insanity to avoid execution in Ford v. Wainwright, execution incompetency in Panetti v. Quarterman wherein a habeas corpus was filed as the defendant suffered from mental disorder, persons with mental retardation being exempted from execution which is discussed in Atkins v. Virginia and African-American convicts being more likely to be found incompetent for execution.
